Summary of Covenant Baptist Church's Beliefs

The London Baptist Confession of Faith is an historic, Reformed, Confession of Faith which is an excellent summary and help to us in our desire to “build ourselves up on our most holy faith” (Jude 1:21). The Confession of Faith of 1689 places us in the mighty stream of truth which comes down to us through the apostles, the early church, and the Reformation.

The Confession presents orthodox, Christian doctrines on the inerrancy and Divine authority of Scripture revelation. In several following chapters, the Confession opens up the glorious doctrines of the Trinity, the glorious attributes, and God’s sovereignty in creation and providence.

We hold to the doctrine of the fall of man into sin by the sin of our first parents, the guilt of all mankind in sin, and the necessity for Christ’s perfect sacrifice and atonement as the only Mediator between God and man.

The Confession opens up the doctrines of calling, justification, adoption, sanctification, faith and repentance, and perseverance in faith and good works, which issue from the saving grace of God.

In the final sections of the Confession we discover the glories of the gospel and the church with its two ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and the consummation of this age in the resurrection and final judgment.

At Covenant we endeavor to build up the body of Christ in truth and the love of God in Christ. Ephesians expresses our desire for the church in this regard:

“As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love” (Eph. 4:14–16).
